Which Volunteer position…

NOTE: Some volunteer shifts are located away from the expo area. Transportation will be provided to and from the location, only at the beginning and end of the shift.

Dismount Mountie

Enjoy telling people what to do (ensure riders dismount when they come through the Start/Finish tower) Strong vocal cords (some riders may not hear you – due to exhaustion or preference – you will be required to be vocal when necessary) Thrilled to be in the thick of the action (you will be right at the Start/Finish tower and may even get into some photo shots)

The Screamer

Strong mathematical acumen (ability to read numbers from left to right) Desire to be heard (call/yell bib numbers out as riders pass through the Start/Finish area) Ability to stay alert at all times (if you have a tendency to dose off or wander off to chat with friends, this position is not for you)

Recorder (a.k.a. Pampered Scribe)

Love handling writing utensils (you will record rider bib numbers as they pass the timing trailer) Enjoy looking official (you will be supplied with clip board, pencil, chair) Like to be pampered (we will provide weather provisions, such as cozy blankets, hot chocolate or umbrella, when necessary)

Timing Tent Groupie

Work best in a fast-paced environment (move to the pace of the riders – record lap times, number of laps, and sign in riders going out for their lap) Enjoy working as a team (there are always several volunteers and twenty4 sports inc. staff in the Timing Tent) Thrive on being ‘first to know’ (this is the best place to overhear conversations between riders, team mates and their friends & family)

Bush Bandit

Satisfaction in saving peoples lives (hand out Sports Drinks/Electrolyte Replenishment Drinks or water to dehydrated riders) Musically inclined (use cowbells and vocal chords to cheer riders on as they come into view) Enjoy scenery (we put you in some cool places!) Ability to stay calm in the event of an emergency (we provide cell phones or radios in case you need to contact civilization on behalf of a rider) Afraid of the dark? (Some shifts are at night, but don’t worry – you won’t be alone)

NOTE: This is a really awesome volunteer experience, especially at night – don’t miss it! Must be over 16 years old..

Course Crossing Guard

Enjoy providing guidance to wayward individuals (ensure that pedestrians are not on the course, and are using spectator walk-ways) Get a kick out of making noise (whistling, hand flapping, and yelling are all appropriate warning measures) A future thinking individual (would like to add Crossing Guard experience to your resume
