24 Hour Racing dates back to 1992 (Cannan Valley WV) and was a team sport only. It was not until 1994 at the first 24 Hours of Indiglo (which became the 24 Hours of Adrenalin in 1996) in Ontario Canada was an athlete permitted to race solo, so the history of teams has been the backbone of the sport. Traditionally 97% of riders ride on teams. We felt is was time to provide endurance riders globally the opportunity to race participating on teams while racing against the best in the world.
After testing the team format over the past few years, 2012 marks the first year that two newly created categories will be contested for world titles.
As an endurance event the W24C should remain faithful to it’s core… “challenging riders to test each persons limits”. For example the global brand Ironman (2.4 mi swim / 112 mi bike and 26.2 mi run) elite winners typically win in Kona (WTC) with a time just over 8 hours.
The new “2-Person Open” and “3-Person Coed” categories have been added to the W24C for 2012.
Teams of 2 and 3 will test the limits of endurance racing requiring team riders to race between 8 and 12 hours each.
A total of 50 teams globally will be permitted to race for these titles.
Qualifying for the team categories requires the submission of a team race resume. Events listed in the Qualifying Events area can be used for teams. Note these include 24 solo events, 24 Hour team events, 100 mile/km events, stage races. Feel free to include other events not listed.
